Full Recoating – Internal and External Coatings

The Advanced Repair also includes the full replacement of the internal coating protection, to complete the as-new restoration and prepare the blades for extended service with new coatings on both the external and internal surfaces.

Oxidation Resistant Tip Weld Material

Conventionally the tips are welded with a material that restores the dimensional height of the blade but is very poor in oxidation resistance – in fact inferior to the original blade casting material.  The advanced Repair incorporates a special alloy L3667 which has superior oxidation resistance, and is superior to the original blade casting alloy.  This material has been proven in service to reduce or eliminate future tip height loss, and maintain power for the engine.

FSR® Full Solution Rejuvenation® Heat Treatment – Service History

Liburdi is the originator of this process and has a 25 year track record of restoring high hour industrial turbine blades for further service.  Liburdi introduced FSR®Rejuvenation heat treatments for the GE and Rolls-Royce aeroderivative engines in the early 1990s., and has now reliably Rejuvenated over 40,000 blades over the past 25 years – all blade sets have given reliable service for their additional service intervals.

2X Blade Life Extension for  LM1600 and LM2500 Repairs

The Advanced Repair applies to all models of LM2500 HP1, HP2 blades, and the LM1600 HPT and LPT blades.

Since 1997 entire fleets have been using this service to reliably extend the life of their blade sets beyond the conventional 50,000 hour mark and achieve significant savings in maintenance expense.

The conventional repair is carried out by others at 24,000 hours and is limited to tip welding and strip and recoat of the external airfoil surfaces.  The parts are then retired after their second service interval at 50,000 hours.

The Advanced Repair is designed to be applied at 24,000, 48,000, and 72,000 hours to extend the life to 100,000.

Rejuvenation

The LM2500 and LM1600 HP Turbine Blade alloys age in service and lose some of their creep strength properties over time.  The special FSR® Full Solution Rejuvenation® heat treatments applied by Liburdi restore the alloy microstructure to an as-new structure and brings back the original creep strength properties.  This "zero-hour" repair prepares the blades for a second life, and extended service to 100,000 hours.
